Al Smith: Cornet / Vocals
Exeter, California
Al is probably best known for his time with the fabulous High Sierra Jazz Band. Under his
leadership the band rose to international greatness, traveling the world and amassing legions of fans
and admirers. At the end of 1998 Al decided to come in off the road, and departed from the band to
spend more time with his wife Cathy and their young family. Anyone who was ever at a High Sierra
concert when Al was leading the band can tell you that once you hear him it’s hard to forget him. Al
plays with such power and spirit that you know even without seeing him that he’s in the band. It’s
obvious that he puts his whole heart and spirit into every note he plays or sings, and everyone on
the stage and in the audience can feel the uplift that his presence brings.
